What is MTTD - Mean Time to Detect?

Mean time to detect (MTTD) is the average length of time it takes a cybersecurity team to discover incidents in their environment.

The lower an organization's MTTD, the more likely they'll be to limit any damage done by a cyber incident. Things that can help organizations lower their MTTD include security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR) technologies, understanding the risk profile, robust cyber resiliency programs, and incident response plans. Lowering MTTD also helps reduce dwell time.
