Optiv Cybersecurity Dictionary

What is Vulnerability Management?

Vulnerability management refers to the process of discovering, classifying, prioritizing, remediating, reporting and responding to software and network security vulnerabilities. A variety of vulnerability scanning tools and services can assess and analyze systems in search of known vulnerabilities, which can include insecure configurations, malware infection susceptibility and open ports.

Identified vulnerabilities may be remediated in several ways, including patching, software reconfiguration or security policy updates.
